History:
Polali Shree Rajarajeshwari Temple is situated in Polali, Dakshina Kannada District, state of Karnataka. Polali Shree Rajarajeshwari Temple is believed to be built by the King Suratha early in the 8th century AD and later it was contributed by many dynasties who ruled over the region. And it is said that the dynasties who ruled this region in various times have offered agricultural lands for the development of Polali Shree Rajarajeshwari Temple and encouraged the worship of Goddess Shri Rajarajeshwari.
The idol of the presiding deity Goddess Shri Rajarajeshwari which is made of clay is said to be 5000 years old. The mythology says that the King Suratha was betrayed by his ministers of the kingdom and lost most of his kingdom in a war. And it is said he performed penance towards Goddess Shri Rajarajeshwari by making an idol of the goddess out of clay, in return for his kingdom.
